Wedding Nightmare

I read an article about wedding scandals, and I never thought about this before! I’m sure glad my wedding is over with and won’t have to worry about these types of things anymore.

In the article, a bride and groom paid a $2500 deposit for a band to play at their wedding. But when the wedding was only three weeks away, the singer refused to call them back, and they realized he wasn’t going to show up. Luckily, they had a backup plan, and everything worked out.

When one of my friends got married back in October, we, along with her photographer, were all waiting outside the temple for her to come outside. Well, the bride and groom that came out before Courtney was shocked to find their photographer had stood them up! Luckily, Courtney’s photographer was kind enough to take a few pictures for that distraught bride before Courtney came out of the temple.

How horrible is it that there are really people out there who take that kind of money and run? Limousine companies, floral shops, and catering companies usually require a down payment. I never realized how risky it is!

Question: What day is the most dangerous day of the year to be driving on the roads?

Answer: Thanksgiving.

It’s not what most people would think; it’s definitely not the day I would have thought to be the most dangerous. According to the article I read on MSNBC.com, people are cramming all of the activities they can into their weekend with family, and sadly enough, sometimes it ends in tragedy. Roads are packed and there is a ton of traffic. For instance, it was a couple years ago when I was on my way back to St. George after a weekend up north with my family. There wasn’t really any traffic on my side of the road. However, the oncoming traffic on the other side of the freeway was HORRIBLE! I don’t think any car was traveling more than 60 mph. So I guess I can see the truth in the findings of this article.

So despite the opinions that New Year’s Day is the most dangerous day to drive because of the number of drunk drivers, everyone better watch out in a couple of weeks!

Vaccine 101

Coming from a family where my mother made sure my sisters and I always had the most current vaccination for everything, I can say from first-hand experience that visiting the doctor's office isn't always the greatest of times. However, I do understand the risks of not being vaccinated. Some examples in the article I read, on the other hand, are some of the dumbest people I've ever read about.

For example, one family thought it would be much better if their son contracted the chicken pox naturally rather than being vaccinated for the disease. So, when the opportunity came for him to contract it from his father, they had them hug, share drinks, etc. just so he would get the chicken pox. Once he did, they invited friends over so they could get the disease as well. How idiotic can those parents be?! The dangers and complications of the disease are much more severe than a needle will ever be. The article explained all of the myths behind vaccinations, followed by the facts that prove vaccinations are worth the minute of pain.

Nurse Becky--also known as my mother--works at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, and she has seen a number of frightening cases while working there. Whenever there is a new vaccination out, whether or not the risk of actually getting the disease is .00000001 percent, she insists we visit the doctor's office and receive it. There was one time in high school I fought for weeks aginst going to get a flu shot because I knew she would make me get others while I was there. She promised she wouldn't make me, so I finally decided I would go. Well, just my luck--the nurse pulled out my file and said, "Looks like you are due for a Tetanus shot, second series for Hepatitis A and B, AND your flu shot!" Needless to say, my arms were numb for about two days.

Thanks mom, for keeping me such a healthy lady! Even if I do give you a hard time every time you bring up the next extremely important vaccine that I need to receive.

This is some advice for myself...

The article I found on CNN.com was about not procrastinating your exercise habits--something I definitely need to look into.

Because of our short-term desires, we tend to forsake our long term goals. According to the survey in the article, exercising and starting a diet was at the bottom of the surveyed list when it came to procrastination. I, too, fall into the category of being the type of person who does homework instead of going to the gym, or going out to eat instead of eating healthier at home. I find it much too difficult to pack a lunch when I am gone all day long than to just grab something through a drive-through window. However, after reading the three simple strategies given in the article, maybe I'll stop the bad habits that I have.

The most helpful thing would probably finding a friend to work out with. My husband doesn't like the gym, and I don't like running outside. Not only that, but I enjoy exercising at night, whereas he would rather exercise in the morning. Well, it looks like if I want to have company at the gym, I better look elsewhere! So, here is my goal--find a friend to go to the gym with twice a week. Now that it's in writing...wish me luck.

Photo Essay: Kylee's Wedding

While visiting my hometown up in Kaysville, Utah, I had the opportunity to attend the wedding of one of my close high school friends. It was great to reunite with many friends at such an exciting occasion! The following pictures illustrate our eventful weekend and the memories we were able to share together.

To begin the festivities, Kylee and Jayson had a wedding dinner the night before their big day at Maddox Ranch House in Logan, Utah. The dinner was delicious, and it allowed all the girls to mingle and catch up a bit. After dinner was served, we all watched their wedding video. The video was darling! It included an entire story on how they met, their first kiss, their break up, and the proposal. Following the video before we all left, we gathered as friends and took a picture with the bride. (Kylee is the second person from the left.)

Here we are, gathered together waiting for the new Mr. and Mrs. Adam to come out of the temple. It was a moment we had all anticipated for the two years Kylee and Jayson had dated. As we waited with other family members who couldn’t wait to see the bride and groom, we ended up seeing about four other newlyweds exit. It was too many false alarms!

After the long awaited exit from the temple, both Kylee and Jayson greeted all of their supporters. In this picture, Jayson is walking with his new brother-in-law, Ty, and enjoying the conversation with his new family. Ty absolutely adores Jayson. Throughout the time Jayson and Kylee dated, Ty was able to learn new hip-hop moves, cool tricks to do in their swimming pool, and just enjoy the company of a new role model. Jayson fits into the Wood family just perfectly.

It is pretty clear to see that it was a windy afternoon! Our hair was blowing everywhere, and we were constantly checking our skirts to make sure no one was seeing our behinds. Kylee, however, didn’t have to worry about a thing. Her dress was absolutely gorgeous, and she had enough bobby pins to keep her hair in just the right place. We all joked about how Kylee never has anything go wrong in her life. Of course the weather would cooperate! Ironically, after this picture was taken, the weather calmed down.

The best part of nearly every wedding reception—the bouquet toss. Kylee, however, disappointed all of us by throwing it straight to the 10-year-old girl on the front row. As seen in the picture, Kylee realized what a terrible throw it was and just laughed at herself. All of the girls in the back, no such laughter! Just kidding. It was still worth the try—even if Kylee didn’t have such a good aim.

This masterpiece was the car Kylee and Jayson drove from the reception. It was probably the ugliest decorative piece of work that anyone has ever done! But what can I say; I was involved in the process. Jayson’s friends went to the dollar store about five minutes before, and we all scrambled to get done in time so we could go watch the cutting of the cake. We used crepe paper, balloons, whipped cream, Oreos, and other appropriate items. Although it turned out to be one of the most hideous cars in the parking lot, it was worth the memories, nonetheless!

This is a typical picture describing Kylee’s personality! Not only had the reception ended about 30 minutes prior to this picture being taken, but she enjoyed her cotton candy while watching her wedding video with her sister. Don’t most brides and grooms just want to get out of the reception and move on to the honeymoon? Well, not Kylee! She took her sweet time dancing with her nieces and nephews while everyone waited for her grand escape to the fabulously decorated vehicle. When we thought the waiting was over, Kylee took a seat with a glass of punch and a bunch of cotton candy to finish off the night. But I guess the bride gets to live her wedding day just the way she wants it—and for Kylee, it meant relaxing before it was all over.

Finally, the long day came to a close, and everyone was allowed to go home for the night. For some of us, it meant driving hours to get to our destination. My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay with family for the night before our journey. Kylee and Jayson are going to be so happy together, and Ronnie and I wish them the best of luck! I have never met two people more meant for each other. Although they will happily reside in Farmington, Utah, the memories will continue to grow when they come and visit us in St. George!

Marriage= MAN + WOMAN

I decided to read an editorial this week titled, "Shame on LDS Church." A woman who used to live in Utah wrote the article complaining about the LDS church and their stand on gay marriage. This is definitely not the first time I have heard of such complaints from those who argue ridiculous information. In my opinion, gay marriage is completely out of the question. The definition of marriage--it is between a man and a woman. Period.

I think the best words to explain my feelings are the words of someone who left the following comment: "Shame on gay marriage supporters inside and outside the LDS church, for expecting it to change its morals and standards to conform to your ideology of marriage all in the name of 'equality.'"

There is no reason for the author to blame an entire religion for the lifestyle she chose. It is clearly the majority of society who feels that MARRIAGE is between a man and a woman. They have all the rights any couple has, so just leave it at that.

I'm sure tired of stories like this one...

Articles like this disgust me in the highest degree. According to an article I found through yahoo.com, a 26-year-old math teacher pleaded guilty after taking a 13-year-old boy across the boarder to Mexico so she could have sex with him--as if it makes it OK just because you drive a few hundred miles away. To make things more depressing, she was interested in the boy when he was only 12, and on top of that--this teacher has a young daughter to answer to for the rest of her life.

"I owe her more apologies than I can ever give," the woman said.

She should have thought of that a long time ago.; or considered her gross thoughts in the first place for that matter. Pathetic!

How in the world does a person look at a child and act upon such disturbing thoughts? I feel forever sorry for the poor parents of the boy and poor family of the teacher who have to live with this for the rest of their lives. No wonder there end up being so many crazy people in the world.
